The Assistant Librarian II position supports two primary responsibilities- circulation services and assistant to the director- both of which cover a variety of projects. This is a 20 hour per week position with evening and Saturday hours. Must be willing to help cover staff sick and vacation days. $16-18 per hour depending on qualification.
Circulation service includes the following:
- Maintain daily open and closing procedures. Staff circulation desk during open hours.
- Responsible for circulation of library materials and catalogue systems, new patron registration, reference questions, reservation of books, and interlibrary loan requests.
- Help supervise volunteers in the shelving of library materials. Help shelf read book stacks and straighten and rearrange shelves.
- Learn and fulfill all aspects of interlibrary loan procedures.
- Supervise patron usage of Internet and computer stations. Assist patrons with technology requests.
- Provide patrons with directional, procedural and reference assistance.
Assistance to the Director covers many projects in service to the library, including:
- Assist library programming: plan and research, contact program presenters and facilitation. Support weekly story-time and children take home crafts.
- Support library fundraisers: yearly book-sale, online book-sale, silent auction, and annual appeal.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university or combination of experience and training.
- Ability to work independently alone and with others of various backgrounds.
- Ability to exercise tact, initiative and independent judgment when dealing with the public. Maintain a friendly, helpful demeanor.
- In the Library Director’s absence, and in the absence of other staff, being able to follow library policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of circulation services and procedures and/or multiple years of experience in customer service.
- Ability to keep and maintain a variety of library records and statistics.
