Your contributions help the library continue its services for another year. The library is a nonprofit. We do receive much needed support from the Town and your tax dollars, but the rest of the budget is paid for through donations and fundraisers. The annual appeal supports the libraries open hours and staffing, book collection service, yearly community programs, utilities, and insurance. The library trustees, director and staff appreciate your support.
Annual Appeal 2025
Dear Friends,
The Vassalboro Public Library has been an important part of our family’s life for fifty
years. Linda and I introduced our children to books in the old building, the one which
had been moved across the lake ice and which later burned down. I had the good
fortune of serving as library treasurer for over a decade until Vickie and Dean Limberger
took over that task.
Last year we watched old friends and new as they enjoyed “Murder by the Book,” a
play put on by the library at the Grange. This year we all gathered for the first variety
talent show, another fund-raising event the library sponsored. The library still has
shelves filled with books and magazines but it also has computers, on line services,
inter-library loan services, remote worker rooms and tech help. It sponsors and hosts
programs in cooperation with the public schools, home schooling efforts, seniors and
community groups. The library is open six days a week for a total of 38 hours per
week.
All of this growth could not be accomplished without support from many community
people and from the Town itself in its budget process. This year the library’s director
would like to encourage you to show your support by speaking with the town manager
or speaking up at select board meetings or budget sessions. You could also provide a
written testimonial to library staff or return it with your annual appeal check. Share your
history with the library and why you support it. Your comments about how valuable the
library is to you and your family are important and need to be heard as we approach
budget discussions each year with the Town.
The library does have other fundraising events throughout the year and we do receive
generous support from Vassalboro town funds. We also send a year-end letter inviting
you to make individual or family financial donations. All these fundraising and appeal
efforts are essential to cover the library’s yearly budget and allow it to continue its wide
range of services to the community.
On behalf of the library’s board of directors, I’m sending you this letter hoping you will
be moved to respond with your own donation, in acknowledgement of how blessed we
are to have our library as such an important part of our lives.
Sincerely,
Art Kingdon
