Vassalboro Community Read will begin May 2021
The Vassalboro Community School Librarian – Melora Norman- and the Vassalboro Public Library Director -Brian Stanley- have received a grant from the American Library Association to do a Community Read in Vassalboro.
The Community Read will begin in May and be centered around the Alewife Restoration Initiative in Vassalboro. The two books we have picked are “Swimming Home” by Maine author Susan Hand Shetterly, and “The Alewives’ Tale” by Barbara Brennessel. Both of these books will be available through checkout at the library and we seek to donate the children’s book to elementary students in the community.
We have invited the authors of the books and some experts of the Restoration Project to share their expertise via online presentations in May. We also plan to host a book discussion in May for students and adults, and will work with the school to take students to the Box-Mill Fish ladder that same month.
Please check our Facebook Pages and websites for future updates and plans.
If you are an expert on an aspect of the Alewife Restoration Project and wish to volunteer and support our Community Read please reach us directly through the Public Library.
